2020 U20 World Championships: Australia win opening game

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have won their opening game of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division III tournament, defeating South Africa 6-1. Forward Jack Ransome was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Turkey shutout Chinese Taipei 3-0, Mexico blanked New Zealand 5-0 and Iceland beat Bulgaria 4-3. After the first round Australia sit at the top of the Group B standings and Mexico leads Group A. Australia take on Chinese Taipei today for their second game of the tournament. The last time these two teams met was at the 2019 World Championships where Australia won 3-2.
