The Newcastle Northstars have announced the signing of Canadian forward Andrew Smardon for the 2023 Australian Ice Hockey League season. Smardon made his debut for the club on 15 April and currently has a goal and an assist from two games. Smardon last played in 2016–17 for the Sackville Blazers in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League where he scored 33 goals and 25 assists from 34 games. Between 2012 and 2017 Smardon competed in five seasons with Sackville, recording 173 points in 174 games.
