2024 AIHL season: 6 April results and standings

Day 1 of the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for the Brisbane Lightning, Melbourne Ice, Newcastle Northstars, and Sydney Bears. With their wins the Melbourne Ice and Newcastle Northstars top the standings in the Hellyer Conference and Rurak Conference respectively. The Melbourne Ice also lead the league’s combined standings, edging out the Sydney Bears on goal difference. Competition resumes tomorrow with games in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Today’s match between the Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs was also the first game of the 2024 Wilson Cup series. The Cup is awarded to the winner of the regular season series of games between the two teams. Last year’s edition of the Wilson Cup was won by the Sydney Bears four games to nil.

  1. It’s just a shame that the AIHL was not played from the October through till the end of February including the playoffs.

    As it would be much better played here in Australia from the spring months through too the summer months. As it would do understand that their is cricket, tennis and other sports played here within Australia throughout the spring and summer months

    But it would be a lot cooler within side the ice skating rink for the spring and summer months, as our summer months are way to hot and ice hockey would do much better during these warmer months, I think so any way.
