The Newcastle Northstars have added Canadian defender Tanner Butler to their roster for the 2023 Australian Ice Hockey League season. Butler spent 2022–23 playing for the Evansville Thunderbolts in the Southern Professional Hockey League where he competed in 33 games and recorded 16 points. He also had a brief one game stint on loan to the Indy Fuel in the ECHL. Between 2014 and 2023 Butler has competed in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, the ECHL, the HockeyEttan, the HockeyTrean and the Southern Professional Hockey League.
