Day 29 of the 2023 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for the CBR Brave, Melbourne Mustangs, Newcastle Northstars and Perth Thunder. Following today’s results, the Newcastle Northstars are the second team to qualify for the 2023 Goodall Cup playoffs joining the CBR Brave who qualified last week.
With their win the Melbourne Mustangs return to the top of the Hellyer Conference standings while the CBR Brave remain at the top of the Rurak Conference. The CBR Brave also continue to lead the league’s combined standings, six points ahead of the now second placed Newcastle Northstars. Competition resumes tomorrow with games in Canberra, Perth and Sydney.
Today’s match between the Adelaide Adrenaline and CBR Brave also served as the first game in the 2023 Beyond Blue Cup series. The cup is awarded to the winner of the regular season series of games between the two teams. The last edition of the Beyond Blue Cup was held in 2020 as a charity fundraising event due to the season cancellation and saw the Adelaide Adrenaline defeat the CBR Brave in a series of Mario Kart races. Today’s game also saw the CBR Brave wearing a themed jersey to help raise funds for the non-profit organization Menslink.
